Ignite the Fire

Having only been a Personal Trainer for the past 7 months I need all of the help I can get. In fact, I think that most Personal Trainers are pretty open to help throughout most of their career because there are so many different fitness crazes and new research springing up constantly that it's hard to keep on top of things. Recently I was bought the book 'Ignite the Fire' by Jonathan Goodman, a guide to helping Personal Trainers build a successful career. I would highly recommend the book and here are the reasons why....

This book reminds you of every single reason why you starting Personal Training and why you love your job. At the beginning on the book you are told to think of a list of reasons why you started training and use that as a tool as to why your clients have decided to train. It was really good to reflect on why I love fitness so much because it has given my enthusiasm for my job a breath of fresh air, plus the constant tips of how to help your clients get the results they want remind you how much your job can help others achieve their goals.

As well as sparking my enthusiasm for fitness, it also made me start to think with a business mind. Being a trainer is all about selling yourself and selling your skills and as a beginner, sometimes I lose confidence in myself and therefore am not selling myself too well. This book gives you an insight into how you can boost your business brain and unique ways of selling yourself no matter where you are. Throughout the book you are given advice from how to get clients to how to maintain them and also create referrals from your current clients, it's a Personal Trainer's Bible to be honest.

My final point really is that it has reminded me that throughout my career education is key. Often a lot of Personal Trainers do a short course and they're off training people and that's it for them. Now i'm not saying that these people aren't good at what they do but it is the same as any job, you will most definitely become better the more you learn and the more skills you acquire. The book emphasises the importance of continuous education and since reading it i've found myself ready to book onto extra courses and have been reading more much to help not only my knowledge but help my clients progress. If you are a Personal Trainer or are considering becoming one, I would highly recommend that you read this book!

How to stick to goals

It's getting closer to summer and since everyone has most definitely forgotten about their New year goals it might be time to start thinking of some new ones. But the major problem is not making the goal, but sticking to it for longer than a week, we are all guilty of it, you just have to make smart goals in order to make them more achievable, and I have some tips...

1. Be specific

What exactly is it you want to do? You might want to lose weight but you need to decide how much weight you want to lose, or how many inches you want to lose off your waist. Just saying you want to lose weight puts you at a downfall from the beginning because you don't have a specific end to your goal. The thing that helps me the most is to write my goals down. Once it's written down you've always got the constant reminder of exactly what your goal is, write it somewhere you have to see it everyday so there's no escape...

2. Set a time

As well as making your goal specific it makes sense to set a time period for your goal. Otherwise this goal could be going on forever and you'll drag it out and never achieve it. At the same time, if you give yourself too little time to meet your goal and it becomes unachievable then it's only going to get you down. Be serious about it, how long is it going to really take you to finish reading that book, or get down to sub 25 minutes on a 5k?

3. Tell people

If you tell people your goal then you're being held accountable for it. As long as you've got an achievable goal you shouldn't be worried about telling anyone because it should then push you to get it smashed. Write it on your fridge so your whole family can see or declare it to the world on Facebook so that you really have got the whole world watching you.

4. Make it fun

What's the point in trying to achieve something if you aren't going to enjoy the journey along the way. When I see people suffering on diets, I know that the end result will be fab but what about all the times you've spent being miserable on the way to that goal. Instead you need to spice things up to make your goal a bit easier. For example, if you love chocolate, learn how to make healthier alternatives to chocolate, the internet is full of weird and wonderful healthy recipes for you to discover. If you goal is to have saved £200 in 3 months, don't starve yourself along the way or stay indoors, come up with ingenious ways of entertaining yourself without splashing the cash on a heavy night out, or get on Pinterest and make a 5* meal in the comfort of your own home.

5. Think about the bigger picture

Right now it might be hard closing the cupboard on that chocolate bar or tub of ice cream in the freezer, but remember that holiday you've got planned that you wanted to lose 7lbs for. Whenever you are feeling like you want to blow out, take a moment and think about the bigger picture, yes the food will taste great now but it won't taste so good when you have to do 50 extra burpees in the gym the next day to burn it off will it?

My Goals

So after all of that going on i'll let you all know my goals:
1. No junk food until my holiday to Brussels on 10th June (So I can have an infinite amount of Belgian Waffles)
2. Be able to do 5 pull ups by the end of June
3. Blog post twice a week for the next 4 months

Good Luck to all!

LBP-The Fit Family for You

The Lean Body Project is a private gym based in Stockport City Centre, providing group personal training sessions and HIIT classes for people looking to increase their fitness levels and get results. LBP is a great place if you have a fear of going to the gym because the clients and staff are like a big family and welcome anyone to the team...

Now I know I am biased because I do work there, but I can safely say that I have never been to a gym where everyone is so friendly, and i've been to a lot of gyms. During your time at LBP you make so many friends and get support from everyone else around you which is amazing if you lack confidence when it comes to exercise. When you first join you are given a nutritional pack and added to a private group where all of the clients and trainers can chat and keep up to date with the latest news. It's ongoing support so you can never forget your fitness goals.

If you decide to join you can take two options, HIIT classes or HIIT and Personal Training. If you join HIIT, you get unlimited access to the classes that are on early, mid morning and in the evenings, as well as weekend mornings. During the week we do bodyweight, high intensity workouts that help you burn fat but also build your strength, toning at the same time. On the weekends it's circuit time, a mix of bodyweight and weighted exercises to spice up your workout. Or if you want to try your hand at some heavier weightlifting then PT might be for you. During the hour Personal Training there is some cardio to get you going and then we get straight into the weights. If you have never tried lifting weights before don't be afraid, they don't make you look like a man or like you're on steroids, instead they give a nice toned shape to your body and still help you to get rid of unnecessary fat.

As well as support in the gym, nutritional advice is always to hand as the trainers can all offer sensible advice on how to tailor your diet to your lifestyle and hit the goals you're aiming for. So, if you'd like to give The Lean Body Project a go, visit the website here!

Idealfit UK

Being a woman in fitness can be difficult, with lots of products and fitness information  aimed towards men, sometimes I think that companies forget that we have arms and legs and like to exercise too. But Idealfit UK have come over from the US and launched here, bringing us top quality fitness supplements aimed at the ladies.

A week or so ago I attended the launch of Idealfit at Hale Country Club in Cheshire and got to meet the inspiring face of the brand, Lindsey. During the day we got to take part in a fun workout aimed at legs, bums and tums, tested all of the products and had the chance to here all about the brand and ask any questions about supplements. It was great to see all of the women that have jumped on the fitness trend and are making healthier decisions about their lives. Plus I got an overload of protein...

So why is Idealfit different to other supplement brands? Well they are tailored to a female training programme. All of the products are low in sugar and carbs and each have added vitamins such as B6, B12 and D to stop you from getting fatigued and keep your skin, hair and nails strong. The brand stock Whey Isolate Protein Powder, BCAA and Pre-Workout, giving you all of the products you need to be on your way to a good workout at the gym. Plus, they come in delicious flavours, my favourite is the chocolate brownie protein powder, anything that covers my chocolate craving is great.

If you want to know more about the products, or sign up to the free training programme available, visit their site here

Gousto, the chef delivered to your door

Being a food blogger means that I get to try out some pretty delicious food which I am very grateful for, but then I get to share all of these delicious recipes and food trends with you guys. This week it's all about Gousto, a company that bring great recipe boxes and good quality ingredients to your door.

How does it work?

If you head over to Gousto.co.uk you can choose from a variety of weekly meals to be delivered to your door. Each week they update the scrumptious list of recipes and you can choose how many of these recipes you would like to order, either for 2 or 4 people. After you've chosen your recipe, it will be delivered at a time that suits you. A box of all the ingredients needed for the recipes you chose, in the right amounts, with a recipe card to go with it. It is such a brilliant idea because it avoids food waste as you are only given the ingredients you need, it is also great for portion control which I need a little help with...

You can have the boxes as often or as little as you would like. Meaning you can get different meals delivered each week, and if you have a week away or want a week off, you can simply just skip the week. However, if you fancy Gousto as a treat from time to time, you have the option to only pay for boxes when you want them. In my opinion it's pure genius, the recipes are so good but also really easy to follow and you end up with a restaurant quality meal in the comfort of your own home.

So what did we order? Lots of chicken of course....

The chicken, red pepper and lemongrass curry and lemon pepper chicken with rosemary potatoes. Sounds good right? We got plenty of pictures of the curry but i'm afraid that we were way too excited to eat the lemon chicken and ate it before I even had the chance to take photos. I can't stress how easy the recipe cards are to follow and because you've got the right amount of everything, it's pretty hard to get it wrong. Plus, you've got the recipe card to keep so you can keep on making the recipe to your heart's content.

We had a vote on our favourite meal and it was a 50/50 split, but if you want my opinion, it was the curry. If you want to give Gousto a go yourself, use the discount code: TORNADO to receive £20 off each of your 1st and 2nd Gousto orders, on any box size.
